Alternative Mental Health
Many people are not aware of alternative mental health options. Because of family history, this has been a personal study of mine since I was about 12 years old. I have discovered many options and ways we can help ourselves. I felt this was important enough to have its own section. Of course I will start from a platform of cleansing for many reasons. Although called “colon cleansing,” the entire body works as one unit. If one area is sluggish, the rest of the systems will back up. This means that toxins – such as chemicals used in food processing – will be stored instead of removed. They are stored in the fatty tissues which also surround our organs such as the brain. Therefore, it stands to reason that cleansing can help our bodies deal with this issue. Mental health depends upon a series of chemical and electrical actions all requiring neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemical substances in the brain which transmit messages and nerve impulses, which are electrical signals. Note the important key words are chemical and electrical. Here’s where we veer off of science and delve into common sense. If our brain signals depend upon chemical and electrical signals, it is only logical to assume that these can be interfered with by outside chemicals and metals, which can have an effect on electrical signals. Find any processed food box, can or mix in your local grocer and check the ingredients. You will see many chemicals and even some metals such as aluminum in the ingredients! These are used as flavor enhancers, preservatives, pesticides and colorings to make the food look “right.” It is a common argument that these are in such minute amounts they cannot possibly affect us. This would be fine if we just ate the one food in question and everything else we ate was fresh, whole and organic. In addition, we don’t count restaurant food which is usually flavor enhanced, packaged for readiness and quickness of use and not labeled for our discretion. Further, when “studies” are done to see if the amount of a chemical affects us, the test only considers one product being tested. For example, when tested to see if aluminum in a certain food affects us (such as baking powder), it is not considered with the aluminum that may be absorbed in lotions, deodorants, aluminum cans, cooking in aluminum foil and… well you get my point. One more thing to consider is that although the amounts of these chemicals used in processing are minute, so is the amount of chemicals and electrical impulses in our brains. Suffice it to say it only takes a small amount of chemicals to interfere. I was once diagnosed as being bipolar and my mother was diagnosed schizophrenic when I was a young child, so I have searched for the reasons and help. I have found many alternative mental health options that may help you, too. The following are some articles to read if you are in a quest to help yourself or a loved one.
