Is Barley a Heart Medicine?

Barley in it's grain form, has long been considered a heart medicine in the Middle East. It can reduce cholesterol levels and contains antioxidants that may help prevent cancer. Here's why...

The fiber found in barley not only helps lower cholesterol, it also acts as a primary fuel for the cells of the large intestine while at the same time provide food for friendly bacteria. The fiber also binds with bile that contains cholesterol, to help clear it from your body.

Barley is also high in niacin which helps to; reduce the clumping together of blood platelets which can lead to blood clots, reduces total cholesterol levels, and helps reduce lipoprotein which is a type of cholesterol known to stick to blood vessel walls.

Dried barley grass is full of vitamins, minerals and protein. It also contains the nine essential amino acids that our bodies cannot manufacture. You can find the grass form in the powdered green superfoods, such as Barley Green or Vitamineral Green.
