Let Your Nutrition Education Work for You

Once you have a nutrition education, you need to think about how you will make your living. There are many ways to choose from, between getting a job and working for yourself, of course depending on what type of education you have.

A Nutritional Consultant is far different from a "Registered Dietitian" or "Nutritionist," with the former being more holistic and the latter two being more scientific oriented.

The Clinical Dietitian or Nutritionist is more likely to get a job doing research or working with larger corporations in research studies, organization of research or perhaps help in the development of new dietary supplements. Another possibility is working with hospitals and clinics providing clinical and/or medical nutrition consultations. Any of these can be fulfilling and financially rewarding.

If your nutrition education has led you to be a Nutritional Counselor, more holistically trained with focus being more on the entire body as opposed to the science of food. They are generally knowledgeable in food and food supplement therapies as well as other holistic modalities which may include massage or even colonic therapy.

Regardless of which career path you choose, in today's economy it is wise to take charge of your future. There will be many opportunities in front of you to expand your nutrition education, giving you the chance to increase your income.

Do not forget to educate yourself in computers since they are in every career from sales to building your professional portfolio.

As time goes on, by gaining experience, you are given a unique perspective that is valuable to others. This experience is a valuable tool that you can use to write books, teach seminars or help more clients on an individual basis. This type of extra income can help you create or solidify your financial future or give you a secondary income. You can give yourself a better chance at guaranteeing your income by receiving education in both types of nutrition; holistic and clinical. Both sides are important aspects of health and can work together to benefit all clients, patients or even open the door in research.

Scientific or clinical knowledge is important as it is becoming widely know that food choices may lessen symptoms or may even heal in some clients. The food sciences also benefit those working with clients who put higher demands on their bodies, such as athletes.

The Nutritional Counselor is also important. More people are turning to holistic health and nutrition as an alternative to traditional Western medicine. We are now learning that a type of "cleansing diet" is beneficial as it takes less energy for the digestive process, leaving more energy for the healing process. It is also widely known that holistic practices such as food combining and elimination diets are very helpful for those with common gastrointestinal complaints.

By receiving nutrition education in both, you create more possibilities for yourself. Patients and clients alike are searching for professionals who are open minded as they look for someone to help find an alternative to the antibiotic that didn't work. There are many classes and programs to help you learn How to Build Your Professional Practice .

Look for those extra classes, go on-line and see how many people are affected by food choices. The information is vast and as Hippocrates said, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food." Your future is out there - be sure it's a good one.
