Plain Yogurt for Digestive Health

Yogurt has been studied and is well known for the good bacteria which is necessary for the digestive tract. The good flora strengthens digestion and contributes to a stronger immune system all around.

But recent studies have gone on to show that plain yogurt actually soothes an inflamed esophagus, keeps the bad bacteria at bay and helps fight the ulcer bug Helicobacter pylori. This may be due to the fact that it does increase the good bacteria naturally, therefore allowing your body's natural immunity to fight a myriad of offenders.

Yogurt is more digestible than milk or other milk products, due to live, active cultures. In addition, because yogurt promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon, it reduces the conversion of bile into carcinogenic bile acids.

It also promotes healing of the intestinal tract, reduces the amount of yeast infections, lowers bad cholesterol and is an excellent source of protein.

Try to find organic yogurt with no sugar. It you need a sweetener, try stevia or a small amount of fresh fruit or fresh fruit juice.
