Cleansing Update

Happy New Year!!! Start your new year by ridding your body of holiday or party puffiness. Many of us eat extra carbs in the form of cookies, sweet breads, potatoes and stuffing. This can cause our body to create and hold on to more lymphatic fluid as the body tries to deal with the excess. On the down side, many of our bodies' aren't efficient at eliminating this excess fluid which can cause us to feel and look more bloated.

Try helping your body eliminate this excess fluid by using these tricks. Walk briskly and be sure to pump your calf muscles. The lymphatic vessels have no pumping action of their own and need help. The muscles used during fast paced walking create the best action for moving the lymph fluid. Next try drinking a lemonade flushing drink made with fresh spring water, 1 Tablespoon of organic, grade B maple syrup, 2 Tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice and a pinch of cayenne pepper. The compounds in this drink are known relieve bloat in as little as two hours. Drink it first thing in the morning, followed by a piece of fruit and then again before lunch and dinner.

Of course these aren't meant as a deep detox but they can make you feel better and jump start your new year's cleanse.

Let Food be Your Medicine

Celery has always been considered by many in the health community as a powerful detoxifier. Adding fresh celery to your veggie or fruit juice can assist your cells with sodium/potassium exchange meaning it helps your body stay hydrated while clearing cellular waste. Celery is known to reduce blood pressure and helps clear uric acid from joints. This is beneficial to anyone suffering from arthritis. It also helps flush the kidneys and is an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant.

Diet and Motivation Tips

Plan your meals and write it down. Make a resolution to plan your meals for the next five to seven days to help you stay on schedule. Even if you plan on eating out, write it on your schedule where you will eat and what you will order then stick to it. If possible, prepare your meals ahead of time and put them in the proper containers making them easy to grab on the go. This helps when you're too tired, stressed or have too much on your mind since these are times when we are more susceptible to grabbing the wrong foods. Keep your schedule posted on your fridge and on a pad in your purse, your phone or appointment book - anyplace to remind you and help you stay on track.

Ask A Question

Can I start fasting for my cleanse?
It is okay to fast for one day to jump start your cleanse. But if you are tempted to do more than this, be careful... although fasting is an extreme form of cleansing, if the body isn't ready and prepared for it you can create or uproot many health problems. Easing into a fast is the best way by slowly cutting out food groups every few days while adding whole food supplements such as green superfoods and veggie juices. Easing into a longer fast will be more productive while keeping your body strong.
