Cleansing and Natural Healing for Digestive DisordersDigestive disorders are very common today. Here are some ways that holistic practices and body or colon cleansing can help. According to medical definitions, acid relux is caused by the backup of stomach acid or bile into the esophagus. Ulcerative colitis is chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a wide range of symptoms that resemble other diseases. These are some of the more common digestive disorders. In every case, the actual cause is unknown but many culprits are suspected such as; stress, alcohol, smoking, and poor diet. In each case, medications are prescribed to subdue the symptoms. It is a fact that many of our foods are highly processed. We rarely eat grains in their natural form, opting instead for white flour, processed wheat, and breads or cereals with added pesticides, fungicides, benzoyl peroxide and chlorine dioxide (known to cause cancer), methyl brojide, nitrogen trichloride and even bleach. These toxins are known to cause allergies that cause bloating, diarrhea, leaky gut syndrome, and constipation, all which are symptoms of various digestive disorders. At the same time, processed foods are very difficult for your body to digest. They require a lot of energy to break down and in many cases your body simply cannot – especially if you over eat. They do not contain as many nutrients as the body requires so in the end your body uses nutrients and energy to digest, and there is no energy left to heal. Along with this, many of us do not eat nearly enough fresh, raw fruits and vegetables – especially if we have digestive problems. Many people in this situation believe they cannot eat raw veggies because they are simply too difficult to digest. Yet, these are easy to digest – so what it the problem? Having a digestive disorder seems to create a catch-22. You need healthy foods, yet healthy foods are difficult to digest. This may be because digestion has been shut down and disrupted by ulcerations, damaged lining, inflammation and other problems, so the act of eating anything that stimulates digestion, such as veggies, causes irritation. Try a cleansing diet starting with eating small meals of fresh, steamed veggies. Eat protein in small amounts and try vegetarian proteins to start with. Drink plenty of water to help flush the system. Avoid drugs that stop your body's production of digestive fluids for this is setting you up for disaster later on. Cleansing supplements that may help include Essential Fatty Acids, like Omega 3's, 6's and 9's. These are proven in studies to reduce internal inflammation. In addition, some are known to balance some hormones, which is necessary for proper digestion. Aloe Vera juice is often used in cleansing to help flush the intestinal tract. But it also promotes natural healing and reduced inflammation at the same time. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is a repairing herb often found in cleansing programs. It is used to replenish the inner mucus lining of your stomach and can help prevent heartburn when taken over time. It is also known to stimulate the body's natural defense mechanism that blocks ulcer formation. Cleansing your body helps remove toxins that can interfere with digestive health. If you think your body can cleanse itself then consider this; if you overeat, your body does not “cleanse” the excess, but stores it as excess weight and fat. If you drink too much alcohol, your body cannot detox it, but you can get alcohol poisoning. So – if you intake numerous chemicals, pesticides and toxins that are known to irritate in your every day foods and drinks, it is a high probability that your body gets overburdened and instead of clearing it out, they causes problems. It is up to us to help our bodies cleanse, detoxify and heal by supplying the necessary nutrients including herbs, fiber, and supplements that heal. Take care of your body and you will see how truly strong it can be. |
